Chattanooga Parks and Recreation: Teaching Life Skills
Since its earliest beginnings, the role of Chattanooga Parks and Recreation has been to provide diverse recreational opportunities for people of all ages and abilities, in order to meet the needs of the community. While we value our mission and continue to provide such opportunities, over the years, we have recognized our purpose as becoming something much greater.
Our sports leagues allow children to use their energy away from the television screen and to get involved in an activity; however, so often we get caught up in the competiveness of sports that we forget about the fundamental values that being part of a team can teach a child from an early age.

The girls from Team Khaos represented Chattanooga well at the Junior RBI Classic MLB All-Stars in Arizona.
We aren’t just having fun – we are teaching life skills.
Through our Character Education Program, Parks and Recreation has adopted character values to which have been incorporated in each of our programs. These positive values include: Confidence, Courtesy, Honesty, Integrity, Judgment, Perseverance, Respect, Responsibility, and Sportsmanship and are inspired by the First Tee program.
As we continue to integrate life skills into each of our programs, we are ensuring that our children grow as confident individuals, while preparing them for the future. Keep up with Parent Magazine each month as we highlight a character value to show how Chattanooga Parks and Recreation is incorporating each value for the betterment of its programs and the Chattanooga community.
