Library launches summer reading programs for children, teens

Registration May 16–July 11

Registration begins May 16 for the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Bicentennial Library’s summer reading program for children, “Be Creative @ Your Library.”
Children from newborn to age 12 can register, with younger children listening to, and older children reading, a minimum of 10 books. All five library branches will hold special programs during the summer to coordinate with the summer reading theme.
Registration continues until July 11, and on July 25, program participants and their parents can attend a grand finale at the First Tennessee Pavilion, with games, prizes, storytelling and more.
Teens can also participate in a separate summer reading program, “Express Yourself @ Your Library,” designed specifically for youths aged 12 to 17.
Registration also begins May 16 and continues until July 11. To fulfill the program’s requirements, teens need to read a minimum of three books. Throughout the summer, the Central Library on Broad Street will host special book-talks, movies and game days, and on June 20, award-winning young adult author Mitali Perkins will hold programs at three library branches. On August 1, participants are invited to a wrap-up party in the Central Library’s auditorium featuring music, food, prizes, crafts, games and more.
